Strausak & Partner GmbH – Contacts & Location
Description
Slowly, the focus of the orders shifted. There were fewer houses and lofts to build - Hans Strausak built the last classic barn with stable and hayloft in Stäfa in 1985 - but more renovation work. Around fifteen years ago, he therefore began to specialize in the renovation, restoration and conversion of sometimes very old houses, occasionally in collaboration with monument preservation and heritage protection authorities. Hans Strausak knows how to tackle a roof truss that was built between 1750 and 1920, and he knows what it looks like behind the wall cladding of a room that has been renovated many times, even without opening the wall.
Since old houses often do not meet modern requirements in terms of statics, the floors usually have to be reinforced. Strausaks can professionally repair solid old parquet floors, for example panel parquet - this was part of the old carpentry work, but today parquet construction is increasingly being outsourced. What is still often required are conversions and conversions of attics with insulation.
A positive side effect since specializing in conversions: There are far fewer fluctuations in the order situation, summer and winter there is enough work for around ten employees.
In 1990, the company once again built together with neighbor Kaspar Humbel. A subterranean garage was built, which is now rented out as storage space.
The Strausaks took a much bigger step on April 1, 2005: Hans Strausak converted the sole proprietorship into a limited company, which he now runs together with his son Florian, the fourth generation, 75 years after his grandfather settled in Meilen. Florian, born in 1972, completed his apprenticeship as a carpenter with Markus Roth in Herrliberg and then moved into element construction before returning to his father's business. He knows his way around the new "Steko" product, a type of modular timber block that can be used to erect a timber construction quickly and efficiently. Ueli, born in 1974, also trained as a carpenter and currently specializes in kitchen construction - it is quite possible that he will return to the company one day.Although it happens less often than it used to, the Strausak's still find it best to work outdoors at altitude, especially in spring and fall. On joint ski tours and mountain hikes, however, they occasionally get up high outside of working hours...
