Description
Cabriole Montessori School
Cabriole Montessori is a private Montessori school in Carouge for children aged 3 to 6. The school is part of the Association Montessori Suisse.
The school consists of a single classroom, located on the third floor of the Carouge shopping center building. It's a large, bright space with a beautiful view of the surrounding rooftops and the Salève.
1. Ambience
Ambience should be understood as the quality of the environment.
Since the child's education is played out in interaction with the environment, it is
of great importance that the atmosphere in which the child evolves be organized in a
logical and progressive way: in the classroom the material is classified by areas (life
practical, sensory, mathematical and language material), it has a place and a name, it
is thought out and arranged according to the child's needs, abilities and size.
In this way, each child will be able to put in order the acquisitions he has made. He
will raise his awareness through movement and action. He takes the world in hand after
having perceived it unconsciously.
2. Teaching materials
The materials found in the ambience were created by Maria Montessori. It is a
scientific material because it is the result of observations, reflections and deductions
made by Maria Montessori over 50 years.
The material enables the child to conceptualize his learning through the formation
of mental images derived from his concrete experiences.
The material is self-correcting, i.e. it reveals the error and the child corrects himself without
appealing to the adult's appreciation. Each success reinforces the child and helps develop a sense of self-confidence and
self-esteem.
The material is presented in a single copy for each activity; its layout is conducive to
self-activity and free choice, as well as the freedom to use it for as long as necessary to
integrate knowledge. All these qualities promote the development of the child's
social sense and respect for others.
3. The role of the educator
The educator's presence must be felt as that of an available and friendly
being who looks at the child in a positive and always attentive way. He must maintain his interest and
awaken his potential. He must know how to wait, trust and intervene with great
delicacy.
In addition, we emphasize the value of enrolling your child for at least two years, or even for a full cycle:
in fact the multi-age group (3-6 years) enables socialization and models of
reference from the youngest child to the oldest. The environment recreates a family and fraternal setting. The socialization takes place through their discussions and exchanges. They learn to cooperate, to share and to get along well with others.
