Quality dental care and a person-friendly service The Regional Dental Medical Service (SMDR) operates on the third floor of the Mendrisiotto Ambulance Service (SAM) headquarters, in Via Beroldingen 3 in Mendrisio. The Service is a dental medicine clinic equipped with four independent studios with the possibility of traditional and three-dimensional (3D) radiology and offers Momo' citizens hi-quality care and services, with competence and professionalism at advantageous rates. Treatments and care are characterized by a holistic approach tailored to the person and his needs. The staff is able to accommodate people with disabilities and with special needs. The Regional Dental Medical Service - SAM is the dental medicine center of the region which operates in agreement with the 14 Municipalities of Mendrisiotto. At the service of the citizen This important regional reality was born in 2005, thanks to a series of reflections already matured in the mid-90s. Following a feasibility study, which was followed by an analysis of the needs in the dental field of the Momo Region, an association under private law was set up, the Mendrisiotto and Basse Ceresio Regional Dental Service, which has agreements with all the Municipalities of the Mendrisiotto. Following the approval of the then 16 Municipalities of the Region, on 1 July 2021, the Service was integrated into the Mendrisiotto Ambulance Service Association (SAM). Today's 14 Municipalities have renewed their trust in the SAM by signing the new agreement with the Association, increasingly profiled as a Regional Health Centre. The same keep a check on the work of the SAM through their Municipal Delegates who are constantly updated on the financial and operational progress of the Association thanks to the transmission of the budget accounts, the final balances and the data relating to the activity carried out. Thanks to the agreements in place with the Municipalities and on the basis of the new Dentotar price list, our patients can take advantage of the following discounted rates: Persons domiciled in the area: point value CHF 1.00 Persons domiciled outside the district: point value CHF 1.10 On the other hand, the SMDR proves to be particularly attentive to economically disadvantaged patients, both through the possibility of installment payments and through the reports of the Chancelleries of the Municipalities belonging to the SAM Association and collaborates with the social offices of the Canton. To meet the treatment needs of our patients, even in cases of people with disabilities or who cannot reach the office, the Service is equipped with a portable unit to perform dental care and hygiene at home. This recent purchase was made possible thanks to a donation from the Croce Verde Mendrisio Foundation. The Foundation itself, owner of the grounds and headquarters in Via Beroldingen 3, has also carried out expansion and improvement works for the SMDR studio in order to make it more welcoming and functional. SMDR operates on weekdays at the following times: Monday to Thursday (08:00 - 19:00) · Friday (08:00 - 17:00) Saturday (08:00 - 12:00) If you receive by appointment, in the event of an emergency, everything possible is done to welcome patients without a reservation on the same day. Our multidisciplinary team is able to welcome and communicate with users in the following languages: Italian – French – German – English – Spanish – Croatian – Italian Sign Language (LIS). The surrounding landscape is suitable for all lovers of nature and local food and wine. From here, it is possible to set off on various excursions on foot and by mountain bike between Switzerland and Italy. A dense network of paths allows you to admire the typical flora and fauna of the region.The Osteria Manciana, located just a few meters away, is happy to delight guests of the Ostello, from breakfast to dinner, with typical regional dishes and drinks. The Ostello offers two types of rooms. There are three rooms with shared bathroom and shower and one private room with its own bathroom. On the first floor of the Ostello there is a brand-new terrace with a unique view of the valley. Thanks to the youthful and versatile furnishings, guests can spend time together, relax or enjoy the breathtaking view while enjoying a local aperitif. On the ground floor there is another terrace, but this is covered and suitable for activities even if the weather is not favorable. The common room is located on the ground floor. Here guests will have the opportunity to meet, get to know each other and share their stay. As well as for socializing, this area is suitable for relaxing, working or holding meetings. Board games, books and a guitar are at everyone’s disposal. There is also the possibility of listening to music both inside and outsidethe building. The building was built as the Scudellate school between 1907 and 1909 when it was inaugurated by the entire population of Scudellate and Erbonne. In fact, it initially housed the children of the two villages, which are still in Switzerland (Scudellate) and Italy (Erbonne). As many as 51 pupils between the ages of 6 and 14 attended the school every year. The infrastructure built by the local population (see original list of benefactors of 1909) remained available as a kindergarten and school from its creation in 1909 until 1965. In the upper Muggio Valley there were also other schools in Roncapiano and Muggiasca. From 1965 to 1982, the current Ostello was mainly used for local festivals, which were very popular with the population of the entire upper Muggio Valley and beyond. On 22 August 1982, the building was given a new lease of life, and after partial renovation, the Scudellate Ostello was opened and remained open all year round. From 1982 to 2019, the sole manager was Mr Guerino Piffaretti, who managed the facility in an exemplary manner, hosting several generations of young people from schools in the Mendrisiotto area and beyond. Since 2019 the infrastructure has been taken over by the Fondazione per la salvaguardia dell’alta Valle di Muggio (Foundation for the Protection of the Upper Muggio Valley), which has assembled the old facilities with a third adjacent building (former Cooperative), creating24 beds in 4 rooms as well as new and separate toilets. The refectory and kitchen have also been modernized and made more usable not only for guests but also for meetings/presentations etc.. Finally, there has been built a magnificent terrace of approx. 35m2 offering a spectacular view over the entire Muggio Valley. On 23 July 2021, the new Ostello was inaugurated. It will be managed as part of the Albergo Diffuso of Monte Generoso with the adjacent Osteria Manciana, the Foresteria di Scudellate and the Capanna dell’Alpe Caviano.
